Volkswagen shows its first electric GTI; there’s no chance of US sales

Volkswagen unveiled the ID. Polo GTI, its first electric model to wear the GTI badge.

The front-wheel-drive compact EV makes 222 hp, uses a 52 kWh battery, and is estimated to deliver 236 miles of WLTP range.

The model is expected to enter production, extending Volkswagen’s performance hatchback legacy into the electric era.

Volkswagen says the electric GTI is aimed at markets outside the U.S., with no plans for American sales.
