Anthropic’s Opus 5 is almost Fable 5

Anthropic launched Opus 5, its new flagship Claude model, priced the same as Opus 4.8 while closing much of the gap with Fable 5.

The company says Opus 5 matches or beats Fable 5 on many benchmarks for knowledge work, automation, and coding at roughly half the cost.

It removes the 30-day data retention opt-in and is now the default model for Claude Max users, making it easier to adopt.

Fable 5 still leads on some long-horizon and safety-adjacent tasks, but Opus 5 narrows the tradeoff between performance, cost, and privacy.
