MediaTek Launches Dimensity 8550: A 4nm All-Big-Core Mobile SoC with On-Device AI Focus

MediaTek has launched the Dimensity 8550 for mid-to-premium phones, built on TSMC's 4nm N4P process.

The chip uses an all-big-core Cortex-A725 CPU design, Mali-G720 MC8 graphics, and 880 NPU units for faster on-device AI.

It also supports native Gemini Nano V3, 144Hz 1440P+ displays, AV1 decoding, 4K 60fps recording, LPDDR5X, UFS 4.0, Wi‑Fi 6E, and Bluetooth 5.4.

Early phones using the chip include Honor's 600 Pro series and OPPO's Reno 16.

The launch strengthens MediaTek's AI-focused midrange lineup and raises pressure on Qualcomm's Snapdragon 7-series.
