2.5 GW ‘gas-plus-nuclear’ plant in Texas aims to fast-track power for AI demand

Blue Energy and GE Vernova plan a 2.5 GW hybrid power project in Texas that combines natural gas turbines with later-added small modular reactors.

The project would begin with gas-fired generation around 2030, with nuclear output expected by 2032, and early site work targeted for 2026.

GE Vernova Hitachi Nuclear Energy’s BWRX-300 reactors are part of the long-term plan, pending U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission approval.

The approach is designed to deliver power faster for AI, data centers, and industrial demand while nuclear capacity is built.
