ChatGPT adds emergency contact feature “Trusted Contact” for self-harm and suicide concerns

OpenAI is rolling out a new ChatGPT safety feature called Trusted Contact for adult users.

Users 18 and older can pre-register a trusted person who may be notified if severe self-harm risk is detected.

The goal is to connect at-risk users with family or friends faster and strengthen crisis support.

The update expands AI safety protections for adults as well as younger users.
