Samsung Shuts Down Messages—Apple Changes iPhone After 15 Years

Apple’s upcoming iOS 26.5 beta is expected to add end-to-end encrypted RCS messaging on iPhone, a major shift after 15 years.

The update could make iPhone-to-Android texting more secure and closer to a modern cross-platform standard.

At the same time, Samsung says it will discontinue Samsung Messages in July 2026 and steer Galaxy users to Google Messages.

The moves highlight progress in messaging security, but also show that cross-platform texting remains fragmented by carrier and device support.
