Apple introduced SQUIRE, an experimental AI tool for interactive UI prototyping with step-by-step developer control.

The system uses SquireIR, an intermediate representation that lets developers fill components, review limited alternatives, and make targeted edits.

This reduces ambiguity and avoids unwanted changes to unrelated code, making AI-assisted interface design more precise.

In a study with 11 frontend developers, participants reported strong control, usability, satisfaction, and more willingness to try riskier designs.
