Taiwan is cracking down on AI chip smuggling

Taiwanese prosecutors sought to detain three suspects accused of using false paperwork to move about 50 restricted AI servers into China.

The servers were built by Super Micro with Nvidia chips, and the alleged scheme violated U.S. export rules.

It is Taiwan’s first known case targeting AI chip-related export evasion, signaling tougher enforcement on diverted hardware.

The case underscores how export controls now focus not only on chips, but also on the shipping and documentation of full server systems.
