OpenAI says it hit its 10 gigawatt compute goal years ahead of schedule

OpenAI says it has hit its target of 10 gigawatts of U.S. AI compute capacity years ahead of its 2029 goal.

The company added 3 gigawatts of contracted capacity in the past 90 days, including 2 gigawatts from Amazon.

The milestone underscores how quickly AI infrastructure is scaling and how much power and data-center capacity it requires.

At the same time, OpenAI has paused or dropped some data center plans abroad and in Texas.
