PCI-SIG Pushes PCIe 8.0 to 1 TB/s and 256 GT/s by 2028, an 8x Leap Over PCIe 5.0 Built for Data Centers

PCI-SIG has released PCIe 8.0 draft 0.5 for member review, keeping the standard on track for a 2028 launch.

PCIe 8.0 is planned to reach 256 GT/s raw bit rate and up to 1 TB/s of bi-directional bandwidth over x16.

The new generation is aimed at doubling I/O capacity for AI, networking, and other high-bandwidth workloads.

PCI-SIG says the spec will remain compatible with the existing PCIe ecosystem.
