KDDI installs public Wi-Fi in Izu Oshima’s Ura-Sabaku, using Starlink

KDDI has launched free public Wi‑Fi at the Urasuna Desert parking area on Izu Oshima, a remote tourist spot in Tokyo.

The service uses a Starlink Business satellite connection and solar-plus-battery power, making it suitable for infrastructure-poor areas.

It is OpenRoaming-compatible and open to all visitors regardless of carrier, with operations starting April 1.

KDDI says the project will improve visitor convenience and support communications during emergencies.
