China’s Moonshot just handed developers a near-frontier AI model to download

Moonshot AI has released the full weights for Kimi K3, a 2.8-trillion-parameter model with a 1-million-token context window.

Developers can download, modify, fine-tune, and self-host the model, opening it up for private and specialized use.

The model is still far too large for most users to run easily, even though it is now more accessible through open weights.

The release broadens access to a near-frontier AI system and adds to the debate over how openly advanced Chinese models should be shared.
