A review of seven studies involving nearly 3 million people found that falls after age 40 were associated with a higher future risk of dementia.

One fall was linked to about a 20% higher risk, while multiple falls were linked to a 74% higher risk.

The findings suggest falls could serve as an early warning sign for elevated dementia risk before cognitive symptoms appear.

Researchers caution that the association may reflect early disease changes rather than falls directly causing dementia.
