A Decline in Insects That Mediate Pollen Has Been Found to Cause Lower Farmer Incomes and Worse Nutritional Status

A UK-led study of 10 villages in Nepal quantified how declining wild pollinators affect crop yields, income, and nutrition.

Pollination was found to support about 44% of agricultural income and make a major contribution to vitamin A and folate intake.

The researchers warned that further pollinator losses could reduce key nutrient intake by 2030.

They also identified ways to offset the damage, including better vegetation, reduced pesticide use, and keeping native bees.
