SpaceXAI Says It Will Take a Year to Fully Remove Unpermitted Gas Turbines From Its Mississippi Data Center

SpaceXAI said it will phase out 69 unpermitted gas turbines powering its data center near Memphis, with removals starting in August 2026 and ending by July 2027.

The move comes amid a NAACP lawsuit alleging Clean Air Act violations and pollution risks, raising concerns about local air quality and public health.

The company says a permitted 1.2GW plant in Mississippi will replace the turbines as its power source.

The dispute could help shape how major AI infrastructure projects are powered and regulated.
