The Tokyo District Court ruled that highly detailed, monetized spoiler articles about films and anime can infringe copyright in Japan.

Website operator Wataru Takeuchi was sentenced to 1.5 years in prison and fined after the court found the articles were unauthorized adaptations.

The decision could broaden copyright enforcement against recap, news, and fan-content sites that profit from detailed plot summaries.
