Chinese University Announces 30-Story “Artificial Island” for Marine Research Purposes

Shanghai Jiao Tong University announced a 30-story semi-submersible research platform called the Open-Sea Floating Island.

The facility will house six major research units and accommodate 238 people for missions reaching depths of 10,000 meters.

Construction is scheduled to be completed by 2030 and the deck will span about two football fields with a large moon pool.
