Sapporo Station Renovation: Concourse Renewed, Station Commercial Area Expanded

JR Hokkaido has unveiled a phased renovation plan for Sapporo Station, targeting completion by the first quarter of fiscal 2029.

The overhaul will refresh the east and west concourses, expand station retail space to about 1.5 times its current size, and reorganize ticketing and facilities.

Planned changes also include measures to ease congestion and improve transfer flows and wayfinding.

The project aims to modernize the aging station while boosting convenience, local vibrancy, and Hokkaido’s visibility.
