South Korea debuts KAAV-II with 40mm CTA unmanned turret and high-speed planing hull

Hanwha Aerospace publicly unveiled the first KAAV-II prototype on May 18, 2026.

The new amphibious assault vehicle features a remote 40mm CTA turret, a coaxial 12.7mm machine gun, and optional air-defense missiles.

Its high-speed planing hull is designed to improve offshore assault speed and survivability.

The KAAV-II is meant to replace South Korea’s aging KAAV fleet and strengthen Marine Corps defenses against missiles and drones.
