New N700S-based Shinkansen traincars shipped to Taiwan; commercial service in 2028

The Hitachi Toshiba Supreme Consortium has completed the first of 12 N700ST trainsets for Taiwan High Speed Rail and shipped it for testing.

The N700ST is adapted from JR Central’s N700S for Taiwan’s operating conditions, with energy-saving propulsion, backup batteries, better comfort, and improved accessibility.

The fleet renewal will modernize Taiwan’s Shinkansen-style service and improve reliability and passenger experience.

Once all 12 trainsets enter service by the end of 2028, peak transport capacity is expected to rise by about 25%.
