Japan’s Physical AI Push Becomes an Industrial Survival Strategy as Labor Shortage Deepens

Japan is accelerating deployment of Physical AI and robotics across factories, warehouses and logistics as labor shortages deepen.

The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry aims for Japan to capture 30% of the global Physical AI market by 2040.

Japan’s working-age share fell to 59.6% and the population declined for the 14th year, with the labor pool projected to shrink by about 15 million over 20 years.

Companies are shifting from pilot trials to paid deployments, using autonomy, simulation, and orchestration software to reduce operational risk.
