With GPT-5.5, OpenAI is focusing on AI that can execute workflows autonomously

OpenAI announced GPT-5.5, a model designed for more autonomous multi-step task execution and stronger software development performance.

It improves agentic capabilities, handles complex workflows and larger codebases better, and posts stronger benchmark results than GPT-5.4.

The model is said to deliver comparable speed while using fewer tokens, with expanded context support and added safety measures.

Rollout starts with paid ChatGPT and business users, while API access is expected soon.
