Scientists Unlock Hidden Secrets of 2,300-Year-Old Mummies Using Cutting-Edge CT Scanner

Researchers at Semmelweis University used photon-counting CT to re-scan Egyptian mummies from a Hungarian museum collection.

The higher-resolution images reveal finer details about age, possible disease, and mummification or wrapping techniques.

The scans may help identify conditions such as osteoporosis and improve dating of the remains.

Because the method is noninvasive, it offers richer archaeological and medical insight without damaging the mummies.
