Rivian under investigation over rear suspension failures on R1 models

U.S. safety regulators are probing Rivian over rear suspension service procedures on R1 vehicles.

The NHTSA’s ODI opened the investigation after two owners reported rear toe link fractures and sudden loss of control in serviced vehicles.

The probe will review Rivian’s repair process, service history, and 2023-2024 R1 models, with about 115,000 vehicles potentially affected.

Rivian said it updated service handling in March 2025 and recalled nearly 20,000 vehicles in January 2026 to address earlier work.
