Hongqi says its new EV tech can charge a battery in just eight minutes, beating BYD

Hongqi, the Chinese brand owned by FAW Group, says a new EV battery co-developed with Lishen Battery charged from 10% to 97% in 8 minutes and 3 seconds.

FAW says the cell hit 70% in 3 minutes and 41 seconds, with a peak 12C charging rate at 25°C.

The battery uses a custom electrolyte, carbon coating, and liquid cooling to cut resistance and manage heat.

If the results hold in real-world use, the pack could raise the bar for EV convenience and intensify the fast-charging race.
