Missing Medieval Relic of Legendary English King Found After Being Missing for 40 Years

A rare 11th-century royal seal of Edward the Confessor has been rediscovered in the French National Archives after more than 40 years missing.

The seal is the best-preserved surviving royal seal from pre-Conquest England and offers rare insight into how Edward projected authority.

Researchers are studying it for clues about medieval English rule and possible Byzantine and broader European influence.
