Apple acquires materials science company PlasmaSolve to strengthen its technology in coating and related fields

Apple has acquired Czech materials science company PlasmaSolve through a subsidiary and hired some of its employees, according to an EU Commission notice.

Founded in 2016, PlasmaSolve develops plasma manufacturing simulation software, with MatSight as its core product for modeling metal vapor deposition processes.

The deal appears aimed at strengthening Apple’s materials science and coating technology capabilities.

That could help Apple improve durable thin-film coatings for products such as the iPhone casing.
