AI shouldn’t make decisions for you, but this one will tell when you’re making a bad one

Cornell researchers built Interactive Explainable Ranking, an AI tool that helps people compare preferences head-to-head and spot inconsistencies in their choices.

The system highlights conflicts between stated values and actual rankings, while keeping users in control of the final decision.

It was tested on film and student project rankings and won a Best Paper Award at ACM CHI.

The goal is to make high-stakes decisions like hiring, grading, and selection more transparent and consistent.
