Waymo Recalls Nearly 4,000 Robotaxis After a Car Drove Directly Into a Flooded Road

Waymo voluntarily recalled 3,791 robotaxis after one driverless vehicle entered floodwater in San Antonio and was swept away.

No one was hurt because the vehicle was empty, but the incident exposed a safety gap in unusual weather conditions.

Waymo said it will roll out an over-the-air software update, add interim safeguards, and restrict access in areas at risk of flash flooding.

The recall highlights how autonomous vehicles can face rapid software-only fixes and operational limits after safety issues.
