Matter and OpenADR team up to connect smart homes to the grid

Matter and OpenADR have agreed to work together on interoperability between smart-home devices and utility demand response signals.

The effort aims to connect in-home appliance communication with grid-to-home coordination through a standardized mechanism.

That could help manufacturers and utilities automate load shifting across more devices, including EV chargers and heat pumps.

The result may lower consumer bills and improve grid stability as electrification increases.
