Firefox adds support for "Web Serial," which lets users directly control electronic devices from the browser

Firefox 151 adds support for the Web Serial API, letting websites use JavaScript to talk directly to USB-connected serial devices.

Mozilla tested the feature with Adafruit and demonstrated browser-based hardware projects, including a device controller and a power profiling tool.

The update broadens Firefox’s developer capabilities for hardware control without native apps, while keeping access permission-based for privacy and security.
