The Franco regime's most ambitious publishing project: Unamuno and Borges in every home in Spain for 25 pesetas

The Biblioteca Salvat RTV was launched in 1969 as a state-backed literary project in Francoist Spain.

Promoted by the Ministry of Information and Tourism and supported by RTVE, it paired Salvat Editores with Alianza Editorial in a public contest.

The winning proposal published 100 books sold through newsstands at low prices, reaching more than 30 million copies.

It became one of the regime’s largest cultural outreach initiatives, bringing classics and contemporary authors to a mass audience despite censorship and limited access to books.
