AMD's next EPYC server chip debuts this year with 256 cores and 70% better performance

AMD says its Epyc Venice server CPUs are still on track for a late-year launch, bringing Zen 6 on TSMC’s 2nm process.

The company claims up to 70% better performance, 33% more cores, and as many as 256 cores in the new chips.

AMD is also building Venice-based variants for agentic AI and general-purpose computing, while Verano will focus on AI infrastructure and likely bridge to Zen 7.

Separately, AMD warned that rising component costs could weigh on gaming revenue as demand continues shifting toward AI data centers.
