The survival rate of young cancer patients depends on "which health insurance they have"

A review of studies on about 470,000 U.S. cancer patients ages 15 to 39 found that uninsured and Medicaid-covered patients tended to have lower survival rates than those with private insurance.

The findings suggest insurance status and plan type may affect how quickly treatment begins, access to specialists, and participation in clinical trials.

For young adults with cancer, gaps in insurance coverage could translate into real differences in death risk and overall outcomes.
