NHK Research and Development Laboratory unveils a "transparent hologram" with full-color 3D images floating in midair, aiming for video display in 2030

NHK’s science lab unveiled a transparent full-color 3D hologram at its 2026 open-house event.

The display uses finely patterned glass and angled RGB light to create clearer 3D images without extra optics.

Because it stays see-through, it can overlay images on real scenes for mixed-reality and broadcast uses.

The current prototype is static with about a 20-degree viewing range, and video playback is targeted for around 2030.
