DeepMind dismantles its AlphaFold team as key authors leave for Anthropic

Google DeepMind has broken up the team behind AlphaFold, its landmark protein-folding system.

Most researchers were reassigned to internal projects like Gemini, enzyme design, fusion, and genomics; some moved to Isomorphic Labs, and nearly a quarter left.

Key AlphaFold figures including John Jumper, Jonas Adler, and Alexander Pritzel have joined Anthropic.

The move underscores DeepMind’s shift from a focused scientific mission toward broader Gemini-based AI competition with Anthropic and OpenAI.
