Linux kernel's ‘second-in-command’ uses local AI bot to hunt bugs, powered by 'clanker' system with AMD's Ryzen AI Max+ — Framework Desktop has resulted in close to two dozen patches

Greg Kroah-Hartman used a local AI fuzzing setup on a Framework Desktop with AMD Ryzen AI Max+ to uncover real Linux kernel bugs.

The findings led to nearly two dozen patches merged into Linux mainline across subsystems including ALSA, HID, SMB, Nouveau, IO_uring, and ksmbd.

The effort highlights on-device AI as a practical tool for bug hunting, not just code generation.

It also shows Linux formalizing AI-assisted contributions while keeping human review and accountability central.
