SpaceX AI to remove 69 unauthorized gas turbines at 'Colossus'...convert into a 1.2 GW clean power plant

SpaceXAI has agreed with Mississippi regulators to phase out 69 mobile gas turbines used at its Colossus AI data center by July 2027.

The company will replace them with a 1.2GW permanent power plant permitted under the Clean Air Act.

Until the turbines are fully removed, temporary generators equipped with emissions controls will keep running.

The deal marks a shift away from ad hoc fossil-fuel power for AI infrastructure toward long-term, permit-based energy supply.
