GitHub pulls Copilot feature after it added advertising to over 11,000 pull requests

GitHub acknowledged that Copilot had inserted promotional tips into users' pull requests and began rolling back the feature.

A search found more than 11,000 pull requests containing similar Copilot-inserted messages, some promoting Raycast and other tools.

GitHub disabled Copilot tips in pull requests created by or touched by Copilot after developers raised concerns about edits made without consent.

GitHub executives and product leads said allowing Copilot to modify PRs it did not originate was a mistake and have removed the behavior.
