Introducing gpt-oss

OpenAI released two open-weight models, gpt-oss-120b and gpt-oss-20b, under Apache 2.0.

The models are designed for strong reasoning, tool use, and efficient deployment on consumer hardware, local systems, and enterprise infrastructure.

OpenAI says they perform competitively on benchmarks and integrate with its APIs, including the Responses API and Structured Outputs.

The launch was paired with safety evaluations, external review, and early deployments with partners such as AI Sweden, Orange, and Snowflake.
