Australia warns social media platforms of 'major gaps' in under-16 ban enforcement

Australia’s eSafety watchdog says Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, TikTok and YouTube still have major gaps in keeping users under 16 off their services.

If they do not improve age verification and block underage accounts, the platforms could face legal action by mid-year.

The move could lead to fines and set a global precedent for enforcing social media age limits for minors.
