Meta was finally held accountable for harming teens. Now what?

Two courts recently found Meta liable for harms to teens, including a New Mexico verdict under the state's Unfair Practices Act.

The New Mexico ruling imposed $375 million in fines and a Los Angeles jury awarded $6 million in a separate case assigning Meta 70% liability.

Internal Meta documents revealed efforts to boost teen engagement and studies flagging about 12.5% of users as problematic, and Meta said it will appeal.
