Microsoft is going to shut down the easiest way to “pirate” Windows: fake KMS servers. The scene already has its next move ready

Microsoft plans to harden KMS by requiring TPM-backed attestation, aiming to block unauthorized Windows and Office activations in enterprise environments.

Windows Server 2025 will start warning admins in August 2026, and the requirement is expected to arrive with the next Windows Server LTSC release, likely in 2028.

The change targets volume-activation abuse on legitimate-looking servers, not consumer PCs, at least in the initial rollout.

The cracking scene is already looking at alternatives such as TSforge, while cheap key markets may further reduce reliance on KMS.
