Propellant charge modules’ production to reach 300,000 per year; modern facilities to help

Rheinmetall will expand its Nitrochemie site in Aschau am Inn under Project Firepower, investing about €500 million at the plant and roughly €650 million overall in propellant production.

The upgraded facility will increase output of powder and propellant charge modules, with production starting gradually in 2027 and full capacity expected in 2028.

Rheinmetall also plans to raise annual propellant powder capacity to 20,000 tons by 2030, while the site workforce is expected to grow to around 1,400.

The expansion is meant to strengthen Europe’s ammunition supply, support defense-industrial resilience, and add jobs in Germany amid strong demand from the Bundeswehr, NATO, and the EU.
