Google is running a small experiment to alter headlines and website titles in Search using AI, google confirmed a small experiment in Search that changes article headlines and other website titles using AI.

The Verge observed Google Search altering some news article headlines in search results, the Verge reported examples observed over the past few months showing altered headlines.

Google Search is using AI to identify content on a page that could be used as a title matching a user's query, google said the experiment aims to identify page content that would serve as a useful title for a user's query.

Google said a full launch would not use a generative model and would not create headlines with generative AI, google stated that if the experiment were launched widely it would not use a generative model to create headlines.

Examples include rewriting "I used the 'cheat on everything' AI tool and it didn’t help me cheat on anything" to ""Cheat on everything" AI tool" and "Microsoft is rebranding Copilot in the most Microsoft way possible" to "Copilot Changes: Marketing Teams at it Again.", the Verge shared specific before-and-after examples of headline changes made by Google Search.
