Alibaba unveils 128-chip server system for autonomous agents as China moves past NVIDIA

Alibaba unveiled the Zhenwu M890 chip, saying it is about three times faster than its previous processor and built for autonomous agent workloads.

The company also launched the Panjiu AL128 server with 128 accelerators, plus a semiconductor roadmap extending through 2028.

Alibaba introduced Qwen 3.7-Max, a model tuned for long-running agent tasks, alongside its new AI hardware push.

The announcements underscore China’s broader drive to develop domestic alternatives to Nvidia chips amid U.S. export controls.
