Spotify launching a NotebookLM competitor wasn't on our 2026 bingo card

Spotify has launched Studio by Spotify Labs, a standalone desktop app in Research Preview for generating personalized spoken audio.

The app can use context from calendars, inboxes, bookmarks, and more to create trip podcasts, topic explainers, playlists, and briefings.

Users can refine prompts and save the results as Personal Podcasts in their Spotify library.

The move shows Spotify pushing beyond music streaming into AI-powered personal audio, with a possible rival to NotebookLM-style Audio Overviews.
