Simon Oxley, the creator of Twitter’s “blue bird,” dies at 56; also designed GitHub’s “half cat, half octopus”

British illustrator Simon Oxley, who created the original blue bird icon for Twitter and the basis for GitHub’s Octocat, has died at 56.

His death was announced on Dribbble, with the date given as April 4.

Oxley’s work helped shape some of the internet’s most recognizable brand images, leaving a lasting mark on digital culture.
