EU considers laying an undersea cable under the North Pole to link Europe to Asia — Polar Connect aims to bypass the Strait of Hormuz and Russia by 2030

The EU is considering two Arctic undersea cable routes to connect Europe and Asia by 2030.

One proposal, Polar Connect, would run from Scandinavia over the North Pole; another would use Canada’s Northwest Passage.

The plans aim to reduce dependence on disrupted Middle East routes and avoid Russian or U.S.-linked corridors.

Harsh Arctic ice, difficult repairs, and high maintenance costs remain major hurdles.
