Steam shown running on Nintendo Switch thanks to latest Proton Beta — FEX 2604 translates x86 to ARM-friendly instructions on Linux

Valve’s Proton 11.0-Beta1 now includes ARM64 builds and bundled FEX 2604, enabling Steam and some Windows x86 games on Arm-based Linux devices.

Hobbyists have already demonstrated Steam running on a Nintendo Switch.

The update extends Steam compatibility beyond x86 PCs and hints at Valve’s preparation for future Arm hardware like the Steam Frame.
